Center for Native American Youth Announces 7th Annual Creative Native Call for Art
CNAY asks Native youth artists to submit work that conveys their relationship with the Moon.

WASHINGTON – July 25, 2024 – The Center for Native American Youth (CNAY) at the Aspen Institute is excited to announce the 7th annual Creative Native Call for Art, accepting submissions now through August 15, 2024.

*The deadline for the 2024 Creative Native Call for Art has been extended to Sunday, August 25.

Creative Native celebrates a cornerstone of many Indigenous cultures by providing space and support for artists between the ages of 5 and 24-years-old to showcase their talents. All artists who submit will be featured in the CNAY Creative Native Gallery and have the opportunity to receive national recognition and categorical awards of $300. One artist between the ages of 15 and 24 will also be recognized as the grand prize winner, and receive $1,000.

“Art is deeply rooted in our cultures and serves as a powerful conduit of expression – one that we are honored to continue to support and uplift,” said Cheyenne Brady, Associate Director of Youth Programs at CNAY. “Each year, we are moved by the talent and creativity displayed by Native youth artists and are excited to view the interpretations of this year’s prompt that honors our relative the Moon.”

2024 submissions should be inspired by the following prompt: Who or what is the Moon? What does the Moon mean to you? Do you or your community have a special relationship with or stories that can be told about the Moon? All interpretations are welcome!

Recognizing the diversity in artistic expression among individuals and tribes, all mediums are welcomed in the call. This includes, but is not limited to: painting, drawing, pottery, photography, sculpture and traditional works such as beadwork, jewelry, regalia, silversmithing and carving.

The Creative Native Call for Art will continue accepting submissions until 11:59pm EST on August 15, 2024. For full contest rules and eligibility information, including the electronic submission form, please visit CNAY’s website (https://www.cnay.org/creative-native/). If you have questions about the program, please email CNAY staff (cnayinfo@aspeninstitute.org).
