Katy Stewart (she/her) joined the Center for Native American Youth in July 2023 after five years with the Aspen New Voices Fellowship, where she oversaw an advocacy and communications Fellowship program with 187 Fellows from 47 countries. Prior to the New Voices Fellowship, she worked for the American Society for Microbiology, managing international global health portfolios in East Africa and the Middle East and serving as Senior Editor for Cultures, a small public health-focused magazine.

Katy is an alumnus of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg American Health Initiative, a program she joined to transition her career in global health and advocacy to one focused on U.S. health equity and policy, with an emphasis on adolescent health and the decolonizing health & development ethos present in the Aspen New Voices Fellowship. As luck would have it, Katy was awarded a grant in collaboration with JHU’s Center for Indigenous Health to work with CNAY on a decolonizing data initiative.

Katy is passionate about using data and storytelling to break cycles of generational trauma to improve our collective physical and mental wellbeing. She is beyond thrilled to oversee all of CNAY’s youth programs, helping to create places and spaces where young people can thrive.

After 15 years in Washington, DC, Katy returned to her home state of Vermont where she currently resides with her wife, Arielle, and their beloved baby girl. When they’re not playing or watching women’s rugby, Katy and her family spend time with their relatives and friends and try to learn all they can about the wildflowers and native plants that surround their home.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and International Affairs from the George Washington University and an Master of Public Health in Adolescent Health from Johns Hopkins University.
