Letha is a 2 spirit, Klamath and Cour d’Alene, mixed indigenous person. They were born and raised in Portland, Oregon. They are an activist, artisan and decolonial educator, focusing on Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge (ITEK); teaching from a trauma informed and anti-bias perspective; and advocating for their people and other marginalized groups by attending marches/rallies and organizing demonstrations.
Letha spent their childhood exploring the natural areas in Portland and tending to their garden. In their free time you can find them crafting/beading or taking care of their garden.
About Letha’s Project
During their time as a 2024 Brave Heart Fellow, Letha planned and hosted an ITEK event in Portland. The event served to increase access to traditional first foods, bring awareness to wetlands as cultural ecosystems and provided an avenue for the local Indigenous community to give input on government land usage.
In the future, Letha plans to continue their work building a relationship with city, connecting people to land and food, increasing access to wetlands and planning additional community events.
