AGE: 15
I am a 15 year-old student at Hominy High School. I enjoy creating all types of art but my favorite is painting. I am an active member of the Osage Nation Youth Council and am active in the In-Lon-Shka dances which are the traditional dances held on the Osage Reservation each June.
ABOUT THIS PIECE
This painting represents the way in which parents nurture their children while helping their children to develop their cultural identity. The child’s hands are holding fruit which represents growth. The mother’s hands are on top of the daughter’s representing how parents guide their children by teaching them about their culture and heritage. The largest part of our world during our childhood is our parents. It is their responsibility to teach us about our heritage and how to live in the world we are born into while holding on to our history.
