Halito! Hello! I am Autumn McMillan, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. I currently work as the Native American Liaison & Enrollment Specialist at East Central Community College. I am also a Community Health Representative with Tulane University’s Weaving Healthy Families Program and apart of my community’s non-profit organization.
During my spare time, I love to read, sew, do traditional beadwork and improve my photography skills. I am ecstatic to be part of the Remembering Our Sisters Fellowship and look forward to working and creating memories with the rest of the Fellows.
Yakoki. Thank You.
About Autumn’s Project
Autumn McMillan developed The Picture Project – a beautiful photographic booklet with images of Choctaw women wearing traditional outfits at the base of Nanih Waiya, a platform mound in Mississippi that holds cultural significance to the Choctaw people. By choosing Nanih Waiya as the location of the photoshoot, Autumn drew attention to the strength, resilience and legacy of the Choctaw people. The research booklet includes information about the MMIWG2S+ epidemic and provides resources to learn more and take action.
