AGE: 18
My Crow name is Daxpitchexapáalia meaning Bear Medicine and my english name is KamiJo Whiteclay. I am an enrolled member of the Crow Nation. I am a member of the Greasy Mouth clan and child of the Whistling Water clan. I am the 7th generation and direct descendent of Chief Pretty Eagle, who was 1 of the 5 members of the first Crow delegation. I grew up on the reservation at the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains. My family comes from the “bineesapeelè” band or the “River Crow” band of the Crow tribe.
The “”Decolonize” piece is a representation of the historical and continued oppression that Indigenous people face. We have acknowledged this hence the reason why the U.S. flag shows distress. However, we are in a state of resurgence and decolonization and that was spearheaded by strong Indigenous women. The Crow word on the piece means “To go back and think to the way we were before.” The “Indigenous Wonder Woman” piece shows the strength and resiliency that we as Generation Indigenous inherently posses. We have the power to break down stereotypes and have to define ourselves.
