CHEROKEE NATION, OSAGE, SENECA-CAYUGA
AGE: 14
I am a 14 year old student from Locust Grove, OK, soon to be a Freshman at Tahlequah Sequoyah High School. Art has become my outlet to express myself. I thank my Creator for blessing me with this gift and pray that the paintings or drawings can touch someone’s life. My goal is to become an animator or illustrator to show others about my culture and to honor my ancestors. My parents are Randy Bighorse and Stacey Blossom-Bighorse. I have a younger brother, Jerek, who I hope I can be a good influence and role model for.
I remember stories my great mother told. When she was sick or needed cleansing she would go to the water early in the morning. When she dreamed of fish she knew we would soon have a new generation. This past year has really been hard. My great grandma and my grandparents passed away. Then something that happened in my past came forward, but I know that God is healing me and renewing me. This is me ‘going to the water’. This is me having a future. I want others to know they can get through anything and have a future.
