DINÉ (NAVAJO)
AGE: 19
Second year college student, where during my free-time I love to create various kinds of art from jewelry making to painting with acrylics and watercolor. I’m always striving to make connections between my culture and with my schoolwork, art to help bring more awareness towards native related issues.
In this self portrait watercolor painting, I was inspired by MMIW. This is an increasing problem that leaves native women and girls to become more likely to go missing, or be murdered than any other group. Something as big as this has yet to get the awareness that it deserves. So how can us as native.. and us as native people feel like we belong and count in this country, or in this world, when so many of our sisters are not being accounted for. (The purple background is for domestic abuse and red for Missing and murdered indigenous women)
