Lakota

Age: 15

I’m a 15-year-old enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. I am a freshman in high school. I enjoy painting and making art in my free time.

For the background I made the Northern Lights, which identify our ancestors either making their way home or dancing in the sky. The moon for the theme. But the moon is sacred, in different ways. She was the light of the night for the natives so they can travel to a new camping area. A woman with a ribbon skirt with long black hair to show my culture. A deer with a red handprint to represent MMIW, which stands for missing and murdered Indigenous woman. And the big dipper.
