O'mastewin Foster

Blackfeet, Assiniboine, Fort Peck Sioux

Age: 20

My name is O’Mastewin Foster, meaning First day of Light Woman in Lakota. I’m an artist, community advocate and a student at the University of Montana. I love painting as a form a self care and creative expression.

The name of this piece is “tiyospaye,” meaning family in Lakota. There are 2 parent buffalos and one baby buffalo in a field of grass. This painting was created from the deep love I carry for my family. Coming home to me means coming home to my family. Family has always been the center of my world and values I carry forward in this lifetime. My family values are also an inspiration for some of my creative works, like this painting.
